Tata Abandons £1000 car plant, er but still presses on with plans to make it

Tata, the Indian conglomerate (and owners of Jaguar and Landrover) has abandoned plans to built their groundbreaking $2000 car in West Bengal because of protests about the factory being built on disputed land.  The Nano was due to be launched in October and this will now not happen whilst the company seeks another factory cheap enough to build the thing.  Anyone who has ever been to India will have twigged that the one thing the country really does not need is more cars, particularly ones that cost less than a decent lap top.
